An organization, individual or other entity looking forward to owning a website in the Republic of Mauritius has to obtain a .mu registration. Assigned in the year 1995, the .mu extension is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the Republic of Mauritius, an island nation in the south-west Indian Ocean. The Internet Direct Ltd (MUNIC) is the registry and sponsor of .mu domain names in Mauritius. The registry MUNIC is entrusted with the operation and management of .mu top level domain name system, and also oversees the functioning of second level and third level domain names registered under .mu, .co.mu, .com.mu, .net.mu, .org.mu and .ac.mu. The .mu domain registration is open to all having connections with Mauritius.
Before applying for a .mu registration, an applicant must clearly read and agree to abide by all the registration rules and policies set forth by the Registry. To get registered in the .mu domain zone, the applicant must clearly describe his intention or purpose of obtaining a .mu domain registration before the Registry. Furthermore, the applicant must provide complete information about the personal, administrative as well as technical contacts of his domain. The information submitted must be complete, accurate and reliable. In case of any discrepancies found, the Registry reserves the right to terminate the registration of the domain name without any prior notice and without any refund of the registration fee.
Upon receiving acceptance from the Registry, the registrant will be licensed to use the domain name for a specific period. However, he or she must not use the .mu domain for promoting any type of illegal or immoral activity. This can cause violation of MUNIC policies. In this case, his registration agreement will be terminated immediately. Moreover, the registrants cannot use a .mu domain name that can cause any type of infringement of third party rights and interests. |
